View the golden Autumn colours from on board a historic ‘Steamer’
With only a few more weeks of the summer holidays to go it will soon be time to start to plan your next visit to the Lake District National Park. With Autumn just around the corner make sure you don’t miss out on the glorious golden colours that will soon be on display and the Ullswater Valley is just waiting to share this unrivalled beauty with you.
Hop on board a historic ‘Steamer’ with Ullswater ‘Steamers’ from a jetty of your choice, with an all year service running with varying timetable connections between Glenridding, Howtown, Pooley Bridge Piers and between Glenridding and National Trust Aira Force Pier. Sit back and relax whilst savouring the sights and sounds that surround you as you glide down the serpentine course for eight miles through expansive vistas of Lakeland’s highest mountains.
A day out on the lake in the freshest of air will no doubt make you work up an appetite but don’t worry we have this covered as every Tuesday evening until the 13th September you can join us on board for one of our famous fish supper cruises. Enjoy a two-hour evening cruise with musical entertainment from Pete Lashley. Ticket price Adult £18 (Children under 13 £14.50) includes two hour evening cruise, fish & chip supper (veggie option available on booking) and live entertainment. Dogs not permitted. Departs Pooley Bridge Pier at 7pm returns approx. 9pm
The Ullswater Valley is made for walking and there are miles of bridleways linked to 'Steamer Routes' that cater for all abilities from the might of Helvellyn Mountain range at the Southern Reach with some of Wainwright’s most famous walks such as Striding Edge to the remote valley of Martindale which offers access to an expanse of seldom-walked fells.
Some of the most spectacular and famous walking routes can be found here including the seven mile lakeshore walk between Howtown and Glenridding, Hallin Fell affording spectacular views over ‘Ullswater, or the family friendly footpath between National Trust Aira Force and Glenridding.
Earlier in the year we welcomed the opening of the waymarked Ullswater Way. A stunning 20 mile round the lake footpath that links all four piers. A great opportunity to take in all the sights that Ullswater has to offer over a course of a few days. The route can be walked in either direction and from any starting point. Be amongst the first to complete it in its first Autumn glory and split the route up into shorter sections, using an open top bus or steamer to start your journey.

To celebrate the fantastic walking available, the annual Ullswater Outdoor Festival takes place from 24 September to 2 October to showcase this magnificent valley. The volunteers have chosen some fabulous walks for this festival week to help you discover and explore some of lakeland's most stunning scenery.
